Reopening Monday 8th March
Dear Parents,
I am writing to you about our plans for the reopening of Kender Primary School on Monday, 8 March 2021.
First, all children can and should return to school from Monday 8 March 2021 from nursery to Y6, with the sole exception of children who have not yet started the settling in process with the nursery. Parents of these children will be contacted separately by our nursery staff with a start date.
In order for us to prepare for the reopening, all children of key workers or vulnerable children who are currently attending school should take their iPads home with them on Wednesday 3 March 2021 so they can do their learning at home. No children can be on site on 4 or 5 March 2021. This will enable us to deep clean the classrooms that are currently in use and ensure that they are fully ready for learning on Monday 8 March 2021.
Here are the essential details you will need for your child re-starting school.
When your child returns to school they should bring the following to school:
- their iPad, charger and cable: it is essential that these are brought back on Monday morning please
- their own labelled water bottle
- Fruit for a mid-morning snack – yrs 2 to 6
- Their PE kit – bring on Monday and take home on Friday – yrs 1 - 6
- Their own face covering should they wish to wear one.
All classes at Kender will be in classes of 30 and part of larger bubbles of 60 in their year group. This will enable us to ensure children have minimal contact with other classes and year groups. All ‘year group bubbles’ will have the same playtimes, lunchtimes and lesson times.
Social distancing measures will be in place throughout the school and we will be endeavouring to ensure all bubbles continue to be free from infection and can remain in school. We will need your help with this.
Dropping children in the morning
In the morning, no parents will be allowed on site for this term and children will be dropped off at the school gates.
Children in the nursery will be dropped per usual and adults must follow the signs to ensure there is safe distance on arrival.

Arriving late in the morning or the afternoon
Please, please, please be punctual on dropping or collecting your child.
Should you miss the allocated time for arrival, in the morning or in the afternoon you should come to the main entrance. If you and your child arrive after 9.15 you will need to log them in and your child will be given a late slip before being taken to their classroom.
If you are late collecting your child at the end of the day your child will be looked after in the Multi-Purpose Room and you will be allowed to collect your child from there. Please come to the main entrance if you arrive late.
Our school cleaning team need the time when our school staff are off site to undertake a robust cleaning regime. If you are late, then our staff are late leaving and therefore the cleaning programme is compromised.
COVID-19 incidence
Should your child display symptoms of Covid-19 they should be kept at home and a test ordered straight away. If your child is in school and shows symptoms they will be sent home immediately, and you will be told to request a test. It is of course very important that we have up to date contact details so if you have recently changed your mobile number or your email address, please let the school office know.
The symptoms are:
- A high temperature – this means they feel hot to touch on their chest or back
- A new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or three or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if they usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
- A loss of, or change in, their normal sense of smell or taste – this means they cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
Please refer to the school website where further and more detailed information is available.
School health and safety
I would like to take this opportunity to reassure you that to make sure school is safe for children and staff are continuing to implement and review a series of prevention measures, which include:
- risk assessment for safe working
- social distancing
- hand washing
- enhanced cleaning
- workplace hygiene
We are very much looking forward to seeing you and your children after what has been a long break in their learning. We all hope that their return to school will be sustained and we will do our best to ensure that we do everything we can to ensure that they are as safe from the risk of infection as we can make them.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Barr
(Headteacher)
