Forest School
We are very fortunate at Kender School to have a designated Forest School area. The Forest School is a place of peace and tranquillity where children can connect with nature within a busy urban environment. We understand how important it is for children to experience nature, the changing seasons and become confident, caring environmentalists.
Forest school sessions are planned around the seasons. In Autumn, we explore the autumn colours, shapes, patterns, spiders, feeding birds. In the winter months, the children learn about fire safety, how to start a fire, cooking over a fire. In the spring we learn about growing, looking for new growth, exploring mini beasts, making natural mobiles and stick art. In the summer, the Forest School is transformed, and we enjoy new spaces to play, we can play with water and make mud pies, or fill up our digging area with water. Every season offers something new, and we make the most of every opportunity.
As well as exploring the natural environment, the children are able to interact with our resident chickens. They learn how to care for them, collect and cook the eggs. This is an exciting and rewarding experience for the children.
Children in the EYFS and Year 1 have regular sessions in the forest school. Children in KS2 use the forest school to support curriculum learning.
